From the beginning, Ryoga is seen to be very overprotective of Mahiro. This often causes problems between the two, with Mahiro immediately sensing that Ryoga is hiding something from him and therefore becoming suspicious. Later in the series, the two are getting a lot closer, with Ryoga calling Mahiro his "soulmate" since 2021, and Mahiro doing the same in 2022.
At the end of season 1, it gets revealed that Ryoga was best friends with Mahiro's deceased elder brother. He is also the one to get Mahiro back after he left the dorms, and the two establish a strong bond of mutual trust, even though Ryoga is very slow with revealing the truth to Mahiro, who in turn can't feel fully comfortable around the other. It is implied that they have known about the other since childhood, as Chihiro would be constantly talking about his little brother, while Mahiro heard Ryoga's screams while watching horror movies with his brother.
Ryoga and Lihito are roommates, but Ryoga likes to tease the latter a lot. In one occasion, Ryoga even asked fans if they would like to see Lihito's sleeping face, which resulted in him being locked out of the room. However, they still get along relatively well and offer each other (unsolicited) advice.
