Kisaragi Kaoru[]
Kaoru is Mahiro's roommate, and he was also the first member of Anthos* that Mahiro met when they first moved to the dorms. From the beginning, Mahiro stated that he would like to become friends with Kaoru. The two share a very special relationship as they are of the same age and occasionally refer to each other as "best friends" or "rivals". Kaoru once bought a stuffed rabbit for Mahiro, and they used that very same rabbit to film the initial official fancall of BIRTH. They are often shown worrying about each other and are implied to share a deep level of mutual trust and understanding. On Twitter, they sometimes tweet together, giving their fans a "high five".
Kagekawa Ryoga[]
Ryoga and Mahiro have a very close relationship, so close that Ryoga often calls Mahiro his soulmate, though Mahiro does like to tease him occasionally. The two sometimes spend time watching movies together.
They do have occasional quarrels, as addressed by Mahiro in a 2021 September Q&A. However, there was one occasion in Project Archive 1-22 when their conflict erupted and Ryoga hit Mahiro in the face, due to him stating that he wanted to leave Anthos for good. They later reconciled in Project Archive 1-24, where Ryoga revealed to Mahiro that he used to be friends with his older brother, Chihiro, but liked Mahiro before finding out that they were brothers, therefore trying to prove that he sees Mahiro as a completely different person. Mahiro once said that Ryoga has a poor sense for naming things, as he was the one who called their unit "Christmas-colour team". Mahiro refers to him as "Ryo-san" and used to address him using formal language.
Due to Ryoga lying to him several times, he once said that he'd end their friendship if Ryoga were to lie to him one more time, but when he caught him lying again afterwards, he forgave him. He can somewhat see through Ryoga's façade, but not hearing the truth from him directly makes him anxious and uncomfortable around the other one.
They rely on each other during times of weakness, as Mahiro is shown crying in front of Ryoga twice, while Ryoga actively seeked for Mahiro's comfort when he started becoming more mentally unstable due to reoccuring nightmares.
Kiyose Haruta[]
Since they are around the same age, Mahiro and Haruta (along with Kaoru) are very close, and they usually do silly things together to post on Twitter. Their combination name is called Rabion (a combination of rabbit and lion). They are also part of "Team Paprika" (Ryoga, Mahiro and Haruta). In the manga, Kaoru, Haruta and Mahiro were competing against the older-brother-team in a cooking competition and won. In season one, Haruta's blooming was the trigger for Mahiro to have a mental breakdown, as he couldn't be happy but just had his anxieties of being left alone take over.
Toudo Lihito[]
Mahiro refers to him as "Lii-san." Even though Lihito is very cold towards him initially, Mahiro never loses faith and keeps trying to get closer to him, which results in him becoming the first one to get along better with him. They occasionally eat out together.
Chise[]
Due to Mahiro's poor fashion sense, Chise often feels responsible for teaching him the basics. He sometimes gives him his old clothes and told him that an idol is required to always look good, no matter if people can see them or not. Their relationship is very relaxed, and they care a lot about each other. Chise likes Mahiro because "his colour is warmer than anyone else's".
Yashiro Setsuna[]
Mahiro was the first one to try and get closer with Setsuna when he got introduced to them. Even though he was shocked, he immediately thought of Setsuna's feelings and didn't want him to feel excluded. This resulted in Setsuna becoming very attached to Mahiro, to a point where he would only talk about him all day long and even say that he "loves" Mahiro. He also loves Mahiro's clothes and already got to wear them twice. It is implied that he might have even stolen Mahiro's perfume once. The two raised a plant together and Setsuna keeps an anemone in the garden of the medical wing. He shows signs of dislike towards Ryoga and doesn't want him to spend time with Mahiro, but starts to develop a liking for Kaoru over time as he is Mahiro's best friend. On Twitter, he once asked Lihito to exchange a Chise photocard for a Mahiro one.
Karasuma Ageha[]
Ageha seems to be interested in Mahiro, as he had Setsuna spy on him in the beginning and when they were having a recording together, Ageha was only focused on Mahiro.
